Rick Weber



  • I work as a materials scientist and business development manager/consultant.
  • My R&D is on extreme environment instrumentation and glass and ceramics for laser and optical applications.
  • Projects include: R&D for commercial customers, government agencies (DOE, NIH, NASA and NSF) and collaborations with universities. Past projects include low gravity research for NASA and and a research appointment in several research centers in Japan.
  • In 1993, I co-founded a technology R&D company called Containerless Research, Inc. (CRI) based in Evanston, IL. In 2007, CRI's Glass Products technology was sold.
  • In 2006, I founded Materials Development, Inc. to provide extreme environment instrumentation and materials development R&D services.

Electromagnetically levitated liquid metal droplet. This photo was taken at Intersonics, Inc. in 1990. Intersonics developed various levitation technology that was transferred to CRI in 1993.
